Rooted in the Gospel and the Franciscan charism, the JPIC ministry promotes justice, peace, human dignity, reconciliation, and care for our common home across the Province's communities and ministries.
JPIC calls the friars to remain attentive to poverty, inequality, social exclusion, discrimination, exploitation, and the suffering of vulnerable communities — standing, in the example of St. Francis, in solidarity with the poor and marginalized, and promoting a culture of fraternity and respect for every person. This ministry is closely woven into the Province's pastoral, educational, and social work: through schools, hostels, medical assistance, food distribution, educational support, and housing projects, the friars address not only immediate needs but also the deeper causes of poverty and exclusion.
Peace and reconciliation are equally central to JPIC. The Province encourages its friars and the communities they serve to become instruments of peace, particularly amid social tension, division, poverty, and injustice — fostering dialogue, mutual respect, forgiveness, and peaceful coexistence through preaching, pastoral accompaniment, and community initiatives.
A particularly significant dimension of JPIC is the Integrity of Creation. Inspired by St. Francis, who recognized all creation as a gift of God and addressed its elements as brothers and sisters, the Province promotes ecological spirituality and responsible environmental stewardship — encouraging practices such as tree planting, protection of natural resources, responsible use of water and energy, waste reduction, and the use of solar power across its communities and institutions. The Province also fosters ecological awareness among children and young people through its schools, formation houses, and youth programmes, seeing ecological education as an essential part of forming responsible citizens and faithful stewards of God's creation.
The JPIC Secretariat coordinates and promotes these concerns across the Province, building awareness among the friars, animating JPIC-related activities, fostering collaboration with the wider Franciscan family and other organizations, and helping weave the principles of justice, peace, and care for creation into the everyday life and mission of the Province.
